Superpowers, Superheroes, and Purpleslog

Hell In A Handbasket has an article entitled - Which Superhero Would You Choose to Be?

Better question would be what superpower do you want?

I read once that most people choose one of: Flying, X-Ray Vision or Invisibility (I bet you can tell personality types from the answer).

Hey, this would be a good speed-dating question: If you could have any one superpower what would it be and what would you do with it?

Personally, I think most people already have a superpower or two, it is just that mostly they are mundane or lame.

For me, I can crack my jaw (like cracking knuckles). Also, I have super-hard cavity impervious teeth. Neither is any good for crime fighting or impressing girls. Small children are usually intrigued (or perhaps freak-out’d) by my jaw-cracking superpower.

I do look forward to the new Superman Movie. In the Comic Books, I like Batman the best. In the movies and TV, Superman rules.

So, back to the original question, what superhero would I be?

My choice is slanted to DC comics. When was a kid my mom’s aunt worked at a comic book publisher/distributor. Once a year I would get a box full of the year DC comics (the extras) for almost every title.

Superman was kind of boring to me as a comic book.

I loved Batman. He is dark and troubled. I want to read about him, but I don’t want to be him. The Killing Joke and the Dark Knight Returns remain the best 2 of the 3 best Superhero Comic Books I have ever read.

The Flash…oooh I can run fast. Not that interesting.

The only Marvel superhero I would consider would be Iron Man. He is rich and smart has the cool powered Iron Man suit. I liked it.

I like the Green Arrow. He was rich but fell on bad times. His troubles are more mild then Batman’s. He gets to hang with the hot Black Canary. He would be my second choice.

My FIRST choice would be to be a Green Lantern. He can live normal, but the rings give him great powers bounded by his own creativity. He fights the bad guys on a galactic basis as a member of the Green Lantern Corps. He pals around with my #2 the Green Arrow.

Yep, I would be the Green Lantern

Who wouldn’t want to be Batman? You know the coolest thing about him? He don’t have any “superpowers”–he just goes out and do it!

Batman doesn’t enjoy life. He does good…but he will never be happy.

Well, true, but it is admirable how he..well, does it.
He should’ve either been a cop or a soldier for real… Or an olympic athlete…or a circus performer.

But then, he wouldn’t be Batman, I guess.

He has made sacrafices for his service…but would he have gained those skills if his parents hadn’t been murdered in front of him?

Bruce is screwed up.

There was talk of a TV show a fews years back to be called “Bruce Wayne” that would cover his pre-batman, proto-batman years ala “Smallville”. I would have like to see them flesh out the early Bruce Wayne character.
