I am thinking about buying a netbook to replace a long dead laptop. Any suggestions or counter-suggestions?

Don’t get an Asus EEE PC901 with Linux. Unless you dig Linux, of course. It’s a foreign language to me, and I curse the day I bought it. Otherwise, not a bad machine.
Are you sure you want a netbook? What do you want to do?
I use a Fujitsu Lifebook P7230. I did not want to sacrifice too much performance and expandability with a “lite” laptop. But extreme portability was desired and an internal dual-layer DVD drive. I bought it back on 8/27/2008 for $681.
Extreme portability and lightness is what I am looking for. I will just surf and write on it. I might stream some video for short snippets.
I am a Unix guy, but I would prefer this to windows (OSX, if Apple had a netbook).
Mac OS X Netbook Compatibility Chart (Updated July 2009)

I am looking at this:
ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10.1-Inch Black Netbook – 9.5 Hour Battery Life

Fascinating!
I love this idea! OSX give me a unix if I need it, but the MAC UI otherwise.
Wow, I may go that way.
Per the chart, Eee 1000H would be fine.
Let me look through some more.
Thanks!

I couldn’t find the exact article I had seen before, but here is “the $400 Macintosh” . It was something like $300 for the Dell Mini 9 and $100 for OSX.

I need to find if Netbook + OSX Snow Leopard works…

How about an Android netbook?
This is a newer version:
ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE-PU17-BK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook – Up to 14 Hours of Battery Life
w/Bluetooth Mouse
It will be one of these two netbooks:

–$$ –Battery
Jeez…have I been delaying this for almost an entire year?
