More Sunday Night 4GW Blogging: 3 Detainees Hang Themselves in a 4GW Suicide Operation

From the Indianapolis Star- U.S. says 3 detainees hanged themselves:

Three Guantanamo Bay detainees hanged themselves with nooses made of sheets and clothes, the commander of the detention center said Saturday.

    and

The suicides, which military officials said were coordinated, triggered further condemnation of the isolated detention center in Cuba, which holds about 460 men on suspicion of links to al-Qaida and the Taliban.

This was no suicide per say, but a 4GW Suicide Operation. All 4GW actions are about message-sending. In this case the messages are centered around…

    • oh how horrible the prison is
    • oh the poor Muslims were driven to suicide
    • the prison should be closed and the inmates quickly freed and sent home
    • The noble sacrifice of the Muslim Brothers

    …and is targeted to…

    • US and Friends policy makers and influencers of policy makers
    • Neutral and near neutral parties to wedge them a bit more from the US position
    • the Morale Of the Enemy (to increase it with hearty stories if resistance and sacrifice)

The Messages were received and processed.

The article goes on to say:

Amnesty International said the apparent suicides "are the tragic results of years of arbitrary and indefinite detention" and called the prison "an indictment" of the Bush administration's human rights record.
Barbara Olshansky of the Center for Constitutional Rights said in a telephone interview from New York that those held at Guantanamo "have this incredible level of despair that they will never get justice. And now they're gone. And they died without ever having seen a court." Olshansky's group represents about 300 Guantanamo detainees.

    The AP reports:

A U.N. panel said May 19 that holding detainees indefinitely at Guantanamo violated the world's ban on torture. The panel said the United States should close the detention center.German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and British Prime Minister Tony Blair are among those who also recently have urged the United States to close the prison.

    and

Moazzam Begg, 37, a British Muslim who spent three years in U.S. detention, including two years at Guantanamo before being released in 2005, told The Associated Press, "We all expected something like this but were not prepared. It's just awful. I hope the Bush administration will finally see this is wrong."There have been increasing displays of defiance from Guantanamo Bay prisoners, who have been held for up to 4 1/2 years with many claiming their innocence.

    and

A spokeswoman for Britain's Foreign Office, who declined to be identified in keeping with department policy said: "Obviously, this is a very sad event."

    Aljazeera says:

The incident comes as a fresh reminder to the international community of the bleak situation in the U.S. prison camp which has drawn criticism from foreign countries, including U.S. allies, and human rights groups.

    and

The deaths are expected to fuel the growing anger of the American public over the policies of President Bush, already losing public support over his war on Iraq, with numerous scandals uncovering one after the other, ranging from abusing detainees to killing civilians, to lying about reasons to launch the war.

    and

Commenting on Guantanamo deaths, Ken Roth, head of Human Rights Watch in New York, said the suicides were driven by despair."Sadly, suicides like these are entirely predictable when people are held outside the law with no end in sight," he said.

Lastly I don't know which US Congresswoman (I think it was a congresswoman) it was, but on Fox News earlier this evening, she called for the Gitmo prison to be closed, citing among other things the 4GW Prison Suicide operation.

The US and Friends (our Allies, the Core, The West, etc.) must come to understand 4GW and practice it. We must educate the media and aggressively use them in this war.

Perhaps a 5GW should be initiated against the western press by a suitably rich an motivated businessman to bring the press and western citizenry around to 4GW thinking/understanding.

Update: A US Officer on the spot knows what is up per the BBC:

Rear Adm Harris said he did not believe the men had killed themselves out of despair.

"They are smart. They are creative, they are committed," he said.

"They have no regard for life, either ours or their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us."

Unfortunately, the enemy's message is spreading too per the BBC:

William Goodman from the New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights told AFP news agency the three dead men were "heroes for those of us who believe in basic American values of justice, fairness and democracy".

    and

Ken Roth, head of Human Rights Watch in New York, told the BBC the men had probably been driven by despair.

Update: On Reddit, user "Keylime" uses tenacity and reason to counter the large leftists and cyber-jihadist commenting on this story. Alas, every well written comment of his is modded way down.
