Baby McGee (aka Jackson) Arrested Again [Updates]

The FraudFiles Blog report Alderman McGee has been arrested again.

I wonder what for this time? With him you never know.

I am sure his apologists are firing up their word processors.

Here was a prev post on him.

The Milwaukee Journal reports:

Ald. Michael McGee was arrested Monday by Milwaukee police on a case that is being jointly investigated by federal and state authorities, officials said tonight.

McGee is under investigation for potential public corruption charges, according to sources familiar with the probe, which has been placed under seal. Further details are expected tomorrow when U.S. Attorney Steven Biskupic and Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm are expected to hold a joint news conference.

It was unclear where and under what circumstances McGee was arrested, but the sources said the arrest was made earlier than planned because investigators suspected the potential for violence.

More from the Milwaukee Journal:

Milwaukee Ald. Michael McGee is accused of shaking down businesses in his district for bribes in exchange for his help in getting or keeping liquor licenses and other favors through his role as an elected official, according to a federal criminal complaint released today.

In state court, McGee was arrested on suspicion of substantial battery/intend bodily harm, party to a crime; substantial battery-intend bodily harm and conspiracy.

Other details remained sealed, per a court ruling, said District Attorney John Chisholm. He said two other individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the case.

McGee has been under investigation by the FBI, Milwaukee police the Milwaukee District attorney’s office for a year after a business owner in his district complained. Using electronic and visual surveillance, investigators monitored McGee allegedly shake down business that wanted to obtain or keep a liquor license and a gas station owner who wanted to run 24 hours a day, the complaint said.

The complaint also says that the bribes were used as political contributions. McGee recently won a recall vote in April.

Here is the criminal complaint. Here is some video. Here is the Sheriffs Department booking info.

Sadly, several of my co-worker seemed mostly supportive of him. That dropped my opinion of them. I’ll keep my mouth shut on the issue at work, now that I know.

  1. In this situation, even negative publicity is good publicity (unfortunately). From my limited readings of news articles on McGee, I am left with the _perception_ he is the only person in his district that says to his constituents, “I will represent you and your needs!”. Anyone that runs for the alderman position in his district keeps saying “Vote for me and not for Mcgee”. IMHO, people in a lower economic situation (real or perceived) want to hear what you will do for them. So now that Mcgee is in jail he can use that to further his rhetoric by saying once again to his constituents, “I am trying to represent your needs, but I have been stopped by a conspiracy (nevermind the facts and the complaints and the investigations protecting individuals).”

  2. You might be right.

Those residents are making bad choice after bad choice.
