What should 0GW be called? [Updated]

Keeping with a theme, What should 0GW be called?

The other conflict modes of the xGW have nice short reference names:

– 1GW is [TBD]
– 2GW is Attrition Warfare
– 3GW is Maneuver Warfare
– 4GW is [Well, that is another post]
– 5GW is Secret War

So, what should 0GW be called?

– Genocidal Warfare?
– Unorganized Warfare?
– Primitive Warfare?
– Barbarian Warfare?

Any suggestions?

Update: I think I am going with:  0GW is Primal Warfare

  1. How about weaponless warfare – hand-to-hand combat, intimidation, etc.

  2. Survival? Of the fittest?

  3. In XGW I describe 1GW as warfare premised upon attacking into and from key points of physical terrain. A prime example of this is the Spartans at Thermopylae. Siege warfare sort of applies but doesn’t encompass the whole of the concept.

  4. Arherring, that would sound like “linear” to me. That is waht I was leaning to for 1GW.

  5. For 0GW, I am thinking of the almost constant state of LIC that primitive and hunter-gatherer society have that gets punctuated with genocidal rampages.

So maybe 0GW is Primal Warfare.

  6. Bah, that was supposed to be my answer for 1GW.

For 0GW I think you have to break it down almost to the individual level, sort of like counting coup for American Indians. Warfare as an expression of status and suiability to lead / reproduce.

    Heroic warfare?

  7. Heh. I do that all the time.

I having reading about warfare among hunter-gatherers. It is pretty much a constant LIC with genocidal aims. Unlike 1GW and up , it doesn’t have political goals so much as kin/family survival and fitness.

I am prepping for an XGW primer so I am trying to clear up some issues for myself.

  8. Primal in the sense of ‘fundamental’, rather than ‘primitive’, I take it? Takes on more of a ‘survival’ hue than the possibly pejorative flavour of primitivism.

There’s plenty of 0GW going on in my local pubs of a Saturday night btw, if you ever feel the need to undertake some anthropological fieldwork in this department.

  9. “Primal in the sense of ‘fundamental’, rather than ‘primitive’, I take it?”

    Yes.

“Takes on more of a ’survival’ hue than the possibly pejorative flavour of primitivism.”

    …said better then I could!

“btw, if you ever feel the need to undertake some anthropological fieldwork in this department.”

Heh…Milwaukee has it too! I think my drinking days are behind me know though!
