Has Glenn Beck discovered 5GW?

I was home sick today. Of course, my TWC Internet went down at 8am and stayed down till now. I would say fuck TWC, but I don’t have a broadband alternative in my apartment. I did config my Roku to connect to a neighbor’s unprotected Wi-FI network so I could stream music from Pandora.

I turned on the TV and caught most of Glenn Beck‘s TV show. I am going to record and re-watch the late rerun and record it the rest of the week.

Glenn Beck has discovered 5GW.

From Wikipedia

He just isn’t using the term. Yet. Note to self…can he be sent a promo copy of the Handbook of 5GW.

He seemed to be suggesting a Neo-Communist/Neo-Marxist/Crytpo-Communist 5GW Project is underway and ramping up its actions…actions it has been taking small steps over time.

What he described seemed to be a sort of Open Conspiracy or Strategic Citizen 5GW.

He suggests – and had a countdown clock – that there was also a Puppetmaster at work that he will unveil details on Tuesday. He identified George Soros.

He pointed to the book The Coming Insurrection as a source of ideas for the 5GW.

He is pretty sure he will be denounced as a conspiracy monger. I think he is right on that.

He invoked magic and con men for tactics metaphors.

It seems that he plan to be a counter-5GW warrior by using sunlight to expose the 5GW and raise awareness of it.

In xGW terms, successful exposure of the 5GW effort will either collapse (defeat) it, or force it to come out into the open as a 4GW.

These are interesting times.

  1. Much of Beck’s worldview comes from a curious intersection of misinterpreted Mormon theology and Bircher nuttery that he’s absorbed since he joined our church. I see this more clearly than a Gentile would since I’m Mormon myself. I also have family mired in the same misapplication of things Eternal to things temporal. I’ve been listening to this crap for 15 years.

Since I believe in the literal existence of Old Scratch, I also believe that there is satanic 5GW a plenty going on or, as we in Zion call it, “secret combinations”. However, the conspiracies that Becksters come up with are unimaginative retreads of every bad idea that’s congealed together in the subterranean sewers of Western thought since the early Middle Ages. To believe that the particular machinations that Beck and his ilk fear are the best thing the Devil can formulate is an insult to Lucifer. The stuff that crackpot Jacobite Mencius Moldbug comes up with is far more clever and far more plausible than unfiltered Beckery.

  2. I would love to sit you down and hear more on this.

->>”are the best thing the Devil can formulate”
Doesn’t that presume all evil comes from Satan? Can’t evil men create their own evil plans?

MM sure has his own style and PoV!

    • In Mormon teaching, Lucifer was expelled from heaven for rebellion against God along with one third of the “hosts of heaven”:

      3. And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
      4. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth…

      – Revelations 12:3-4 (KJV)

This host provides Old Scratch with more than enough minions to lead every men astray. While men can conceive of their own evil plans, their efforts are stoked by the ever present whisperings of the Devil and his fallen angels.

      Thus said the Lord:

      44. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

      John 8:44 (KJV)

The First Lie was authored by the Devil and all other lies descend from it.

People give up their freedom to the Devil while believing they are being freed. Mormons would refer to this passage from our Book of Mormon:

      22. And there are also secret combinations, even as in times of old, according to the combinations of the devil, for he is the founder of all these things; yea, the founder of murder, and works of darkness; yea, and he leadeth them by the neck with a flaxen cord, until he bindeth them with his strong cords forever.

      – 2 Nephi 26: 22

Therein is found the core ingredients of 5GW: influence and deceit.

  3. What do people who weren’t even alive before the John Birch Society was ridiculed, demonized and marginalized out of serious consideration really know first-hand about “Bircher nuttery?”

The Birchers lost the War of Ideas 40-some odd years ago. How and why and to whom they lost should be studied by populists challenging The Powers That Be.

    • The Birchers no more “lost the war of ideas” than hardcore leftists “lost the wars of ideas” after the Soviet Union whimpered away. There are still true believers a plenty. The reports of their demise are much exaggerated.

The Birchers are like Styx, the Moody Blues, Neil Sedaka, or any other past popular music entity:

      They never go away.

They never stop having an audience.

      They never stop touring.

They just move beyond the immediate purview of the Great Unblinking Eye.

Bircher ideas are very much alive among extreme right-wing Mormons. Since we as a people are outside the American mainstream, Mormons preserve many past notions that complacent Gentiles are convinced have long past away. Extreme right wing Mormons go even further: they preserve many past notions that complacent Mormons are convinced have long past away.

Beck has recently been promoting the work of one Cleon Skousen:

Skousen was an influential figure on the Mormon right (most Mormons are right-wing, some, however, are more right-wing than others) who continued to exert an influence up until his death in 2006 (I was surprised to find out he was still alive when he died). Much of Beck’s thought comes out of this subculture; essentially Beck is making extreme right-wing Mormon conspiracy theory palatable for Gentiles.

      • Don’t mess with Neil Sedaka.

I like Neil Sedaka. His slow version of his song “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” is fantastic.

His song “Alone at Last” is one of the great ballads of all time. His version and a version by Rosemerry Clooney are perfect. I could listen to the song on a loop for hours.

      • >Bircher ideas are very much alive among extreme right-wing Mormons. Since we as a people are outside the American mainstream,

I have little contact with Mormons in real life.

I had a work friend (great guy) who was a Morman. I wish I still had contact with him. I got a little of the religious philosophy from him. Really, I got more from him by how he lived his life fun/smart/helpfull/playful/non-preachy. Jeez…did I have a bro crush on him? Oh well.

At that same job, there was another Mormon whom I considered taking into a stairwell and beating the shit out of on my last day.

Neither person exposed me to Mormon political philosophy.

So, if/when Beck re-packages some extremer Mormon thinking stuff I don’t recognize it as such. Eddie Beaver has given me a heads up in the past on some of the stuff.

      • What ideas are “Bircher ideas”?

If the John Birch Society had won the war of ideas, wouldn’t Birchers occupy key positions of leadership throughout American society? Would you be making snarky references to “Bircher nuttery” without fear of retribution?

If Mormons are “right-wing”, what religion is “left-wing”?

        • “If the John Birch Society had won the war of ideas, wouldn’t Birchers occupy key positions of leadership throughout American society?:

Good point. Mostly, the US Public POV is Leftist.

    • I know almost nothing of the John Birch Society. It was big (might still be in Wisconsin (so were Socialist and communist though).

I know some things of John Birch himself.

I am not sure how much I “know” of the Birchers is true, or just part of the attack anti-communists by the anti-anti-communists.

Growing up…in school and in pop culture…the anti-anti-communist PoV was (and is) presented and the correct and historically true PoV. The anti-communists are presented as nuts/crazy/stupid/etc.

I shed that belief when I was 18 or 19 (and was around actual socialist and communists of flavours).

  4. Glenn Beck’s whole advice to America can be summed up as irrational paranoia. Be afraid of everyone and everything around you with no reason or reasoning allowed
